Rita G. Schuler, 99, of Massillon, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family. Rita was born on October 17, 1924, in Massillon, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude Houck.
Rita was a lifelong resident of Massillon and a 1942 graduate of Washington High School. She was very proud of the time she spent working at the Roundhouse in Brewster during WWII as a bearing greaser on the trains. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, and was a member of the Tuslaw Garden Club. She was also an avid Euchre player as well. Rita was an active member of St. Barbara Catholic Church, where she visited shut-ins and belonged to the Ladies Guild. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and visiting with her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Marlene) Schuler, Kathleen (Bonnie Schillig) Schuler, and Debra (Tom) Schmidt; grandchildren, Christopher Schuler, Rhiannon Prager, Rachel Schuler, Aaron Gowins, Brian Birkich, and Steve Birkich; great-grandchildren, James Prager, Brandon Prager, Alexis Schuler, Ty Schuler, D'Azia Nash, and Adelynn Gowins; great-great grandchildren, Connor Birkich, Landon Birkich, Atticus Prager, and Ellowyn Prager; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Schuler; sons, Terry Schuler, and Randy Schuler; 7 siblings ; and her daughter-in-law, Alice Schuler.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024 at 11 am at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Barbara Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
