Richard T. Lindsay age 84 of Newman went peacefully to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 30, 1925 in Newman to the late Robert and Annie (Davis) Lindsay. He was a 1944 Washington High School graduate and a WWII United States Army Veteran receiving the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in the European Theatre. He retired from LTV Steel / Union Drawn following 36 years of service as a crane operator. Richard was a lifelong member of Newman Baptist Church where he was baptized and served as youth advisor, Sunday School teacher, supply supervisor and Deacon. He enjoyed traveling and gardening. Richard took over his family’s business, Lindsay’s Grocery Store, in Newman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother William (Wally) Lindsay. Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret J. (Gerber ) Lindsay with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage on June 4, 2009; sons and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas E. (Janie Campbell) Lindsay of Silver Lake, OH, and David A. Lindsay of the home; daughter, Ann E. Lindsay, of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd (Lois) Lindsay; sister, Wilma Lindsay and many loving friends, neighbors, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Funeral services celebrating Richard’s life will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at Newman Baptist Church, 11155 Orrville Street NW, Massillon, Ohio 44647, with Rev Dennis McDonald officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Interment will follow the services at Newman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Newman Baptist Church Deacon’s Fund for the Needy or The Salvation Army.
