Richard Rittmaier

Richard P. “Rick” Rittmaier, 62, of Massillon passed away Friday November 20, 2009 at Aultman Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 17, 1947 in Massillon the son of the late Karl and Mildred (Lawhorn) Rittmaier. Rick retired from Timken Roller Bearing as a machinist in 2001 with over 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Navarre V.F.W Post # 5047. He was also a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Navarre. Rick enjoyed hunting and fishing, and restoring old cars especially his 1973 Chevy Nova. His real joy in life was caring for and spending time with his family. On June 30, 1973 he married Vickie (Shattuck) and she survives along with daughters Amy (Troy) Ransom of N. Canton, and Karlene Rittmaier of Massillon; brother Robert (Mary Ann) Rittmaier of Minerva; grandchildren Paige and Aubrey Ransom, Andrew and Ashley Hess, and Kyle McCune; great- grandson Riley Hess; mother-in-law Ruth Shattuck of Orlando, FL; sisters and brothers- in-law April (Clay) Buchanan of Louisville, Maryann (Marlin) Scott of Columbus, Frederick (Diane) Shattuck of Shmoken, PA, Richard (Shirley) Shattuck of Lilburn, GA, Ralph (Melinda) Shattuck of West Palm Beach, FL, Kathy (Randy) Thwing of Las Vegas, NV, Kenny (Patty) Shattuck of Orlando, FL, Keith (Jutta) Shattuck of Germany, Jim (Linda) Shattuck of Lakeside, AZ, and Trudy (Steve) Rowe of Greenwood, IN; twenty one nieces and nephews; twenty four great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Rittmaier, father-in-law Owen Shattuck , and brother-in-law Thomas Shattuck. Visitation will be Monday, November 23 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd NE. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with additional visitation from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Burial with military graveside honors will follow in Unionlawn Cemetery, Navarre. Memorial contributions in Rick’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
