Richard "Rick" J. Sasala

Richard John Sasala, 65, of Cleveland, passed away unexpectedly, December 22, 2022. Rick was born in Bedford, Ohio on May 9, 1957 to the late Richard and Sandra (Sabo) Sasala.

He was a graduate of Twinsburg High School and then proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1977-1993 where he specialized in Aviation and Anti-Submarine Warfare and spending time in Okinawa, Japan. Even after his military service ended, Rick remained a proud veteran and reminisced often of his time in the Navy.

Rick made many friends throughout his life, mostly because his likeable personality made it easy for him to befriend complete strangers.

He also enjoyed watching his Ohio sports teams and even attended a few Cleveland Indians and Cavaliers games.

Above all, Rick loved his two children deeply, being a dad was his greatest accomplishment.

Rick is survived by his daughter Mikayla Sasala and son John Sasala; grandson, Caleb; siblings, Pamela Bunnenberg, Kelly (Mark Ratikan) Duval, John Sasala, Jeff Sasala; Step-Father, Russell Murdoch; many nieces, nephews and other family.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, where a memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m.

The service will also be livestreamed at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and can be viewed at the bottom of his obituary page, labeled "Live Event".

Rick will be laid to rest with his beloved parents at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at a later date.
