Richard Matheny

Richard Matheny, 93, passed away in the arms of our Lord on Friday, July 1, 2022. Richard was born on February 25, 1929, in Wooster, Ohio the son of James Russell Matheny and Jennie Mae (Fetzer) Matheny. Dick had two older siblings, Russell Matheny of Dalton and Harriet Golweiler of Wooster, both deceased. Dick married Rachael Joan Beaverson on November 15, 1952, and would be celebrating 70 years of marriage in 2022. He was a 1947 graduate of Wooster High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the underwater demolition team as a Frogman on UDT - 4. Richard was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts for 18 years. He was a technician for East Ohio Gas and retired after 39 years of service. He attended Faith Lutheran Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Joan Matheny; children, Richard(Kendra) Matheny, Kirsti Matheny, Patrick (Kathy) Matheny; grandchildren, Matthew (Eva Foussat) Matheny, Andrew Matheny, and Hillary Matheny; and great-grandson, Hugh Matheny. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10- 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Buckeye Council BSA or the Navy SEAL Foundation.
