Richard L. “Dick” Gardner, 80, of Perry Twp. passed away Friday October 9, 2009 at the Landing of Canton. He was born February 26, 1929 in Massillon the son of the late Anthony H. Gardner and Rosemary (Galob) DeWitt. Dick was a graduate of Washington High School where he was an all- county and all- state basketball player. He served in the United States Marine Corps where he also played basketball while serving in the Mediterranean. He retired from the Perry School District where he was employed as a custodian. Dick enjoyed gardening, golfing, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline “Jackie” (Cramer) whom he married July 26, 1953; his son Richard (Elizabeth) Gardner, and daughter Christine (Robert) Marks both of Massillon; his brother Robert H. Gardner of Florida; grandchildren Marcus (Holly) Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, Andrew Marks, Michelle (Mark) Ramsey, and Nicholas Gardner; great-grandchild Alexis Lewis; special niece and nephew Paula Vestfals, and Gregory Gardner. Along with his parents Dick was preceded in death by his daughter Toni Jo Lewis, and his sister Patricia Alessandrini. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd. NE. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. with visitation one hour prior to services. Father Raymond Paul will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery.
