Richard J. " Dick" Gumpp, 84 passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Akron City Hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Massillon on January 6, 1929 to the late Fred W. & Jennie L. (Parnacott) Gumpp. Dick was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Army. After returning home, he went to work in the car business for George Stone. His love of cars led him to open Gumpp Cadillac in Mansfield. After relocating to Toledo, Dick opened Gumpp Cadillac in 1974 where he continued his career as an award winning Cadillac dealer until he retired in 1988. Dick continued to live in Toledo where he enjoyed spending time with his daughters and their young families and finally retiring to the Portage Lakes in 1996. He was a member of First Christian Church in Massillon and was active around the Portage Lakes. Dick was known for his supportive nature and his love for his family. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, boats and broken toys. He was a skilled craftsman. Dick is survived by his daughter, Linda ( William ) Bird of Maumee, six grandchildren, Shelley ( Matt) Green of North Canton, Douglas Bird of Akron, Nicole (Matt) Maxon of Maumee, Tiffany (Bryan) DeBois of Hartville, Crystal Cline of Hartville, Richard (Jaclyn) Cline of Tiffin, and six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Andrew, Hunter, Carter, Mason, and Grace, he will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Gumpp, two children, Douglas Gumpp , Cindi Casper and a brother , Charles Gumpp. Friends may gather at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday May 3, 2013 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM with a memorial service following at 7:00PM, Pastor Steven Gower, Officiating . Inurnment will be private at Massillon Cemetery. Memorial can be made to First Christian Church or the Palliative Care unit at Akron City Hospital in Richards name.
