Richard J. Bryan age 71 of Canal Fulton passed away Tuesday June 21, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Dick was born September 10, 1933 in Massillon to the late Charles & Ida (Khoury) Bryan. He joined the Massillon Police Department in 1958 and retired as Chief of Police (1984-1986) after 29 years of service to the City of Massillon. Professionally he graduated from the FBI National Academy (96th Session), was an instructor in several Law Enforcement Courses and Schools and a guest instructor at Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (London, OH). Following retirement he served as a Special Deputy for the Stark County Sheriff Department from 1986-2004. He was certified to qualify police officers in firearms and did so for many departments in Stark and other counties. He was a 19 year Trustee of the Massillon Public Library Board, long time member of the Tiger Gun Club, Stark County Gun Collectors Asso. and BPOE #441. His professional memberships included, Life Member of the FBI National Academy, The Ohio Chapter of the FBI National Academy, Stark County Police Chiefs Asso. and a past member of the Ohio Police Chiefs Asso., Fraternal Order of Police McKinley Lodge #2, Ohio Lodge and National Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Bryan. He is survived by: Wife Janice (Kime) Bryan of the residence with whom he celebrated 17 years of marriage on August 29, 2004. (Sally) Bryan of Massillon Grandchildren: Anthony, Kirsten, Alisha, Abigail and Ryan Great Grandchild, Mackenzie Many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with his pastor, Fr. Raymond Paul officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The Elks Service will be Tuesday at 5 PM.
