Richard H. Smyser, age 85 passed away Saturday morning April 05, 2014. He was born to the late Hermon P. and Blanche E (McGregor) Smyser on November 05, 1928 in Wooster, Ohio. After graduation from Canton Lincoln High School in 1946 he entered the Navy and served in the Naval Reserve continuing his service as an active member of the Coast Guard Auxillary until his death. Dick retired from the Timken Company after 41 years of service. Dick and his wife of 66 years, Lois spent their summers at Craftsman Park on the Portage Lakes with winters in Tavares, Florida. Dick was a member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Company for 30 years and remained an active member of the Zoning Appeals Board for the township. A member of the Canton Masonic Lodge #710, Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Tadmor Shrine Temple of Akron, North Stark Transportation Unit and Legacy Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #596. He was also a a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans. Dick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Canton, where he served as a lay minister and reader. Dick is survived by his wife, Lois; sons, Richard H.(Annie)Smyser II of Marshallville, Ohio Charles C. Smyser (Shelly Love) of Canton, Ohio and daughter, Libby (Mike)Burcham of Geneva, ILL; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive him along with a sister Mary Lou (Herb)Anderson of Naples, Florida. As per Dick's wishes there will be no calling hours and nor services. A memorial service will be held at the convience of the family. Donations can be made in Dick's name to the North Stark Transportation Unit of Tadmor Shrine Temple at 3000 Krebs Drive, Akron, OH 44319.
