Richard Franklin Sailer

Richard Sailer, of Navarre, Ohio, passed away in Canton, OH on May 17, 2011. He was 80 years old. Richard was born on March 14, 1931 in Brunswick, Ohio, the son of Dennis and Marie Sailer. He was raised in the Brunswick area, graduated from Chagrin Falls High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois. He was also a veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 24 years, retiring in 1992 as a Public Relations Manager. His prior employment included National Carbon Company (Cleveland, OH), Abbott Laboratories (North Chicago, IL), Mead Corporation (Chillicothe, OH), and TRW (Cleveland, OH). He was an Honorary Life Member of the Lighter Than Air Society and long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary (Thibodeau) Sailer; his children, Richard F. Sailer, Jr. (Patti) of Perry Township; Janet M. Sailer (Elizabeth Baty) of North Bend, WA, Sharon R. Andrews of Massillon, OH, and Kathryn A. Ball (Lee) of Perry Township; and his brother, Dennis Sailer of Newport Beach, CA. He also leaves three grandchildren, Ryan N. Moore, Rachel C. Sailer and Elizabeth R. Sailer, two step-grandsons, Brian Ball (Carla) and Brad Ball, one great granddaughter, Cameron N. Moore, and three step-great grandchildren, Branden Ball, Nicholas Ball, and Jessica Ball. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Thaddeus Pospie; and his sister-in-law Patricia Sailer. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE, Massillon, Ohio 44646. Interment will follow at East Union Lawn Cemetery, Navarre, Ohio.
