Richard "Dick" Wilson

February 13, 1937 — May 17, 2015

Richard (Dick) Wilson, 78 of Jackson Twp. passed away from cancer on May 17, 2015. He was born on Feb. 13, 1937 in Albion, PA to Earl and Carolyn (Bray) Wilson. He graduated from North Canton High School in 1955 and lettered 3 years in both track and football as a starter. He graduated from the University of Akron with a BS in Physics where he met his wife, Judy Miller. Dick worked at General Tire (later Continental) in various engineering and administrative positions before retiring after 32 years. He then worked for Quick Draft and then was a self-employed engineering consultant. As a member of St. Joseph he maintained the church bells, did Holy Name Donut Sunday, leader of prayer (served in that capacity at the Laurels of Massillon) was VP of Holy Name Society and a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Joined the Massillon Knights of Columbus #554 in 1973 and became a 4th Degree member in 1991. Helped for 2 years in the building of the new complex on Cherry Rd., was a Past Grand Knight, a couple of years as treasurer and wrote various monthly items and articles for the monthly bulletin and worked bingo for a number of years before his illness. He enjoyed playing softball, basketball, golf, tennis and gardening. Coached CYO football for 6 years and Little League Football for 4 years and CYO track for 2 years at St. Joseph. Dick is survived by his wife, Judy with whom he shared 54 years of marriage on June 24th. They have three children: Christy Gerber of Massillon, Lori (Richard) Marko of Canton and son, Rick (Akshay) Wilson of Austin, TX. There are three grandchildren, Matt, Austin and Sydney. He leaves a brother, Mike (Theresa) Wilson of Canal Fulton and sister, Patty Wilson of San Antonio, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Massillon) with Fr. Raymond Paul, Officiating.
