Richard "Dick" Snyder

October 6, 1921 — February 4, 2019

Together Again Richard L. “Dick” Snyder, age 97, of Canton went to be with the LORD on February 4, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 6, 1921 in Canton; a son of the late Raymond and Bertha Snyder. Dick graduated from McKinley High School in 1939. He was a proud Army Veteran who served during WWII, 1942-1945, in the European Theater in the 3rd army division under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge, earning 4 battle stars. Retired from Norman Eckinger Construction after 42 years of being a union carpenter. Dick was a Corvette enthusiast for 45 years and owned 6 himself. He was an honorary member of Classic Glass Corvette Club for 25 years; a life member of Al Koran Shriners for 50 years of Cleveland, Massillon, and past president of Canton Shrine Club, 1972-1982; 58 year member of W.M. McKinley Lodge F&AM #431; 54 year member Scottish Rite 32 °; 50 year member of Legacy Chapter 596 Eastern Star; 74 year member of the VFW 5047; 74 year member of the American Legion Post #44; and 50 year member of the McKinley Eagles 2370. He could make anyone smile and made a lasting impression on anyone who met him. Dick will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews. He instilled the love of this country and God in the family. They are so proud of their uncle and the life he led. Dick is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 72 years, Evie (Masters) Snyder; sister Theda Noggle, and brothers Glen and Bill Snyder. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews; his second family, the Eckinger Family, and many good friends. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Aultman Hospice and his caregivers Kelly, Marie, and Sarah. Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Friday, February 8, 2019, in the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon with Pastor Tim Brown officiating. Calling hours will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, February 7, and from 10-11am on Friday also in the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital in Dick’s memory.
