Richard Dick Behrendsen

July 24, 1930 — August 18, 2009

Richard “Dick” F. Behrendsen, 79 of Tuscarawas Township, suddenly went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on July 24, 1930 in North Monroeville, Ohio the son of the late Carl Behrendsen and Cynthia Stark. Dick was a U.S. veteran of the Navy serving on the “USS Clamagore” submarine during WWII era. Dick worked for Ohio Edison for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on counsel, bible study and various committees. He was also involved in preparing taxes through the Senior Centers, volunteering at the Stark Co. Fair, gardening and the outdoors. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Wurmser) Behrendsen in 2004, his step-parents, Victor Stark and Emma Behrendsen, and his sister-in-law, Betty Wurmser. He is survived by his children and their spouses David Behrendsen of Scottsdale, AZ, Ron (Helen) Behrendsen of Canal Fulton, Carol (Pat) Murphy of New Albany, IN, Diane (Tim) Knight of Canal Fulton; his grandchildren, David H. & Michael Behrendsen, Daniel & Joseph Murphy, Heather, Heidi, Holly, TJ & Hannah Knight; his sisters, Juanita (Roger) Hershiser of Castalia, OH, Kim Sutter and Jodi (Denny) Cummings both of Freemont, OH; his brothers, Victor “Herb” (Linda) Stark of Monroeville, OH and Larry (Barb) Behrendsen of Freemont, OH, and his brother-in-law Ralph Wurmser of Collins, OH. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor Chip Belanga, Jr. will be officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
