Richard A. Davis, Jr., age 45 of Massillon, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton. He was born in Canton on April 23, 1960 and was a lifelong area resident. He attended Culver Military Academy in Indiana from 1975-1977, where he was a member of the Black Horse Troop. He was a Canton McKinley graduate in 1978 and was a real estate broker with 2100 Sperry-Davis Realty. He was an avid sportsman, excelling in shooting sports. He was a member of the rifle and pistol team at The Ohio State University while he attended in 1978. He was well known among trap, skeet and sporting clay shooters throughout Ohio. He was a competitive shooter, participating in Ohio State Skeet and Sporting Clays competitions. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, National Sporting Clays Association, McKinley Rifle and Pistol Club, Skeet clubs and Sporting Clay Courses that Rich shot at include, Sportsmans Shooting Club, B-T in Malvern, North Industry Trap, Minerva Trap, the Shooting Challenge, Ivy Springs, Nema Colin Shooting Center, Hill n Dale Club and many others. Rich also loved to hunt and fish. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Davis. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Edelgard & Glenn Sperry of Massillon, his brother Randy Davis of Massillon, his stepsister, Dawn Marie Barnes and her husband Dustin, his nephews, Drew and Drake, his father Richard A. Davis, his aunt & uncle, Gerda & Heinz Celik, his cousins Heinz & Linda Celik, and special friend, Karen Hopkins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11 at 11:00 A.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Sperry officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
