Richard Alan Harris

Richard A. Harris, age 85 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 23, 2021. He was born in Canton on July 15, 1936 to the late Mark and Martha (Bossart) Harris. Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving 2 tours in Vietnam. Off of the battlefield Richard was a prayer warrior and dedicated servant of Christ. He was a devoted member of Anchor Baptist Church. His passion and main objective was printing the word of Christ, spreading the Gospel of God’s word to all people. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and reading the Bible. Richard was known for his kindness, compassion, and generosity. He is survived by his wife Nancy L. (Unkefer) Harris, who he married on September 28, 2019; his children Debra Hurlburt, Meri (Mike) Nimesheim, David (Jenny) Harris and Elaine (Tim) Glidden; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his brother John (Reva Joy) Harris and a host of family and friends. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Judith Elaine (Markel) Harris, who he was married to for 53 years; his brother Bill Harris and his sister Margaret Cunningham. A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 12 noon at Anchor Baptist Church – 2700 Richville Drive SE, Massillon, OH 44646. Pastor Shane Rice will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10a.m. until the time of the service. Following the service Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Marine Corps and American Legion Post #221 of Massillon.
