Reverend Patrick D. O’Leary

Reverend Patrick D. O’Leary, age 85 passed away December 26, 2010 in Canton, OH. Fr. O’Leary was born July 22, 1925 in Ireland to the late Philip & Mae (Greene) O’Leary and came to America as a young seminarian and completed his studies at Mt. St. Mary’s in Norwood, OH. He was ordained on May 26, 1951 by Bishop Emmet M. Walsh. Following ordination he has been assigned to parishes in Youngstown, Conneaut, Ashtabula and St. Anthony’s in Canton. Fr. was named pastor of St. Theresa, Brewster in 1966 and served in that role until his retirement in July 1991. Additionally he served as a religion instructor at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. During retirement he spent winters in Florida and assisted at parishes there; in the summers he assisted at St. Mary’s, Massillon and St. Andrew’s Church in Norton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Lacey and her husband Kevin and a brother Brenden O’Leary. He is survived by four siblings: John (Eileen) O’Leary of CA, Sr. Maureen O’Leary of Ireland, Teresa (Robert) Kramer of Alliance and Phyllis (John) Purcell of Ireland eleven nieces and nephews.; a special cousin and his wife, Don & Maureen Greene. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday December 31, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9:15 AM until 10:45 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, please remember him by Mass offerings.
