Rev. Raymond R. Peters, age 77 of Massillon, passed away at home on Monday, August 5, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 3, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of the late John and Nellie (Kirby) Peters. Following his high school graduation, he served with the U.S. Army from 1958-60, he then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science and Masters in Education at Lake Erie College and later his Masters of Divinity at the Methodist Theological School of Ohio. He became an ordained elder in 1993. Rev. Peters served the following churches, Cardington Circuit Fairview and Center UMC, Harsh Memorial and Kilgore UMC, Attica UMC and Brewster/Wilmot UMC, he also served the following churches on a part time basis in his retirement, Epworth UMC in Waco, Bethel UMC, Burton City UMC and Eden Chapel UMC. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Richard, John and James Peters and his sister, Audrey (Peters) Knierman. He is survived by his wife, Leonora "Lee" Peters, his daughters, Deborah Manecci, Amy (John) Dumbaugh and Rebecca (Keith) Evanoff, 5 grandchildren, Alexander Evanoff, Noah Manecci, Rachel Evanoff, Drew Dumbaugh and Riley Dumbaugh and his brother Donald (Cheryl) Peters. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church 1720 Schneider NW in North Canton. Burial will follow at Harsh Memorial Cemetery in Harlem Springs, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 PM and on Friday at the church one hour before the service.
