Ray M. Lackey Jr., 79, of Massillon, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014 after a period of declining health. Ray was born on October 21, 1934 in Akron, Ohio the son of Ray Sr. and Edna (Brown) Lackey. Ray was a 1953 graduate of the former Hower High School in Akron. He became a resident of Massillon in 1969. Ray retired in 1990 from the advertising department at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Akron. Following his retirement he was employed at R.W. Screw Products Incorporated in Massillon. Until his death he was employed part-time as a monitor and crossing guard for the Massillon City Schools. Many may remember Ray as a baseball and softball player and manager for many years, along with being an avid Notre Dame fan. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the Outer Banks of NC. Ray was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Jack W. Lackey and his sister Beatrice A. Lackey. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Roberta 'Bobbie' (Liggett) J. Lackey; his children and their spouses, Kimberly Rae (Dennis) DelVecchio, Timothy M. Lackey and Kathleen M. (Michael) Tonn; his grandchildren, Dustin (Heather) DelVecchio, Jennifer (Adam) Casper, Casey and Brody Tonn; his great grandchildren, Hannah and Savannah DelVecchio and Isabella and Dawson Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Raymond Paul will be Officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5-8 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice Care.
