Joan Matheny

Rachel Joan Matheny, 91, of Massillon, passed away on January 17, 2025. She was born in Baughman Township on September 21, 1933 to the late Albert and Gladys {Hartzler} Beaverson. 

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Leroy Matheny in 2022, siblings Wayne, Virginia, Kenneth, Wilbur "Bill", Dwight "Bud" and Mary Lou.

Joan is survived by her loving children Richard (Kendra) Matheny, Kirsti Matheny and Patrick (Kathy) Matheny; grandchildren Andrew, Hillary and Matthew Matheny; great-grandson Hugh Matheny; sister-in-law Barbara Beaverson; countless extended family members.

Joan had a giving heart, often donating blood and quilting blankets with the sewing ladies of Faith Lutheran Church. 

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 107 6th St. SW Massillon, OH 44647 on Friday, February 7th at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Goggins officiating. Joan's family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Smithville Cemetery.
