Eileen Competty, 97, passed away on September 22, 2021 at her home and surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 15, 1924 in Tuscarawas, Ohio to the late Clare E. and Faye M. (Fivecoat) Crites. Eileen was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church both of Massillon. She was very devoted to her faith especially praying to St. Theresa and the Miraculous Medal. Eileen also volunteered her time at St. Joseph’s School helping with hot lunches for the students. In addition to her volunteer work at the church and school, Eileen also helped during the elections with the voting booths. One of the best qualities about Eileen was her ability to always find the good in people she met or knew. Her positive attitude and generous heart always made her family and friends feel welcomed, especially at her house which was the go-to spot for family gatherings and sleepovers with the grandchildren. Eileen was also the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s #1 fan and biggest supporter. She absolutely loved going to all their events and they loved seeing her smiling face, cheering them on. Being a dedicated fan came from her many faithful years watching her beloved Cleveland Teams. She will be deeply missed by her children, Jane (Denny) Jacko, Tom (Barb) Competty, Joan (Tim) McCune and Patty (Steve) Hayden; brother Ralph Crites and sister Glenna (Tom) Seperic; grandchildren D.J. (Amy) Jacko, Christine Jacko, Jennifer (Scott) Hehr, Rick (Cathie) Boron, Renee (Stefan) Krein, Matt (Carrie) Competty, Lauren (Bob) Strobel and Brad (Amy) Competty; great-grandchildren Emerson, Taylor, Caden, Graham, Annabelle, Valerie, Zachary, Gracen, Carter, Macks, Nolan, Nathan, Joslyn, Cam, Ben and Julia. In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, James Competty and her siblings Lois, Jack, Gene, Harold and Marg. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 26th from 2-4 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon and entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers and Aultman Hospice for their dedication and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Donation Processing, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or to Aultman Hospice, 2821 Woodlawn Ave NW, Canton, OH 44708.
