Paul Edward Surmay, age 81, of Navarre, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on May 6th, 2018. Paul was born on November 25, 1936 and raised in Canton, Ohio. He was a master carpenter who spent over 50 years dedicating his passion to building everything from commercial buildings to furniture for his grandchildren. His philosophy was always “do the job right the first time.” His greatest pride and joy was his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul (Jr.) and Anna Surmay, brothers Daniel and Johnny. Paul will be missed by his surviving family: son Paul David Surmay; daughters, Sonia Hedrick (Hugh), Judy Gram (Rusty Larson), Lisa Williams (Steven), Beth Herrick (Scott), Jan Glaser (Jason); sisters Shirley Dawson, Virginia Prinzo (Joseph), Mildred Smail (Glen), and Susan McCleary; brothers Stanley Surmay and Ronald Surmay (Judy); grandchildren: Matthew Gram, Jessica Brewer (Zachary), Joshua, Aaron, and Daniel Williams, Kailee Hedrick, Madeline and Connor Herrick, Juliana, Candice, Charlotte, and Luke Glaser, and great grandson Brodie Brewer. The family will receive visitors on May 9, 2018 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. in the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The family is deeply appreciative for the care and kindness extended by the staff at Aultman Compassionate Care Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center at 2821 Woodlawn Ave. NW, Canton, 44708. The family is having a private service at a later date.
