Paul E. “Gene” Ashbaugh, age 86 of Perry Township, passed away at the Hospitality House. He was born in Canton on August 5, 1923 and was the son of the late Nelson and Ada (Rose) Ashbaugh. Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters during World War II. While serving his country he was awarded the Good Conduct and Victory Medals. He retired from the Timken Roller Bearing Company as a furnace operator. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. in Navarre and the Louisville Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1941. He was the Eagles oldest living charter member. He was also an active member of the A.A.R.P. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Ashbaugh on March 6, 2009 and his brother Blair Ashbaugh. He is survived by his sister in law and brother in law, Marilyn and Ken Rebillot of California and their children, Barbara, Kathy and Pam Rebillot, his brother in law and sister in law, Ron and Marilyn Fogle of Massillon and their children, Kelly and Jeffrey Fogle.
