Paul Alton Smith of Massillon, Ohio went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 11, 2018. Paul was born on May 16, 1936 in Canton, Ohio to the late Howard “Tip” Smith and Gladys Louise Smith. Paul was married to his wife Judy (Swihart) for 63 years. Paul retired from Plant Protection at Republic Steel after 32 years of service. Paul was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Canton, Ohio. Prior to becoming ill, Paul enjoyed working outside around his home, fishing and watching Massillon Tiger Football. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Smith, brothers, Howard Clair Smith, and Rodney K. Smith, and sister, Jonquil L. Smith. He leaves behind his wife, Judy; sons, Paul (Debbie) Smith of Massillon, and Dennis (Amy) Smith; grandchildren, Amanda, Melissa, Lori, Terri, Kimberly, Hayden, and Noah; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Dan (Sharon) Smith of Raytown, Missouri, Lowell David (Jo Ann) Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Dexter (Marge) Smith of Mineral City. A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. The Rev. Timothy Brown will be Officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
