Otto F. Galey, age 89, of Massillon went to his heavenly home Friday August 28, 2009 after a brief illness. He was born January 1, 1920 in Massillon the son of the late Otto J. and Rose (Kupfer) Galey. Otto was a retired school teacher and most recently taught at North Lawrence Elementary. He was a corporal who fought with the Army Engineers in W.W. II from 1941 to 1946. Otto was an active volunteer with the Massillon Salvation Army Citadel and was loved by many for his kind and caring ways. He was a member of the Massillon American Legion Post #221, and a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He played the violin, and piano and also sang bass tenor in several choirs. He married Madeline (Klotz) October 22, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1985. Otto is survived by a daughter Dianne (Michael) Kerr of Copley, OH; sisters Trudy King and Betty (Steve) Hiegl both of Massillon, and Ruth Galey of Arlington, VA; brother Chuck (Peg) Galey of Dublin, OH; grandchildren Nicole Taylor, and Erin Kirven; longtime friends Linda Colucy and Amy Colucy both of Massillon. Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother Edward Galey. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at Paquelet Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd NE. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Captain Kevin Zanders officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
