Oscar Cabassa

October 8, 1910 — June 1, 2007

Oscar Cabassa, age 96 of Massillon, passed away Friday morning at Affinity Medical Center-Massillon Campus following a brief illness. Oscar was born on October 8, 1910 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to the late Antonio and Olivia Cabassa. He worked for Republic Steel as a chipper and hand grinder until retiring at the age of 60. After retiring from Republic Steel Oscar operated a small farm. During the depression Oscar worked in the W.P.A. and C.C.C. camps. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his only wife and best friend, Martha, grand-daughter-in-law Anne Beckham, and 17 siblings. He is survived by his daughters; Becky Elliott of Massillon and Margaret (Dan) Young of Jacksonville, FL, grandchildren; Dorinda Patterson of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Lauri Barrett of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Ricky Beckham, Reneen (Rich) Fedor, and Lonnette Elliott all of Massillon, OH, great-grandchildren; Jake, Natalie, Karri, Matt, Melissa, Ricky Jr. Neena and Nicci, great-great grandchildren; Cordell and Brooke, brother, Irving (Florence) Cabassa of N.C., sister, Judith Cabassa of San Juan Puerto Rico, special care-giver and friend Steven Tully of Massillon, and many nieces and nephews.
