Orvis Afton Evans, age 87 of Massillon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016. He was born on February 3, 1929 in Akron, Ohio and was the son of the late Harry B. and Flossie (McClellan) Evans. Following high school, Orvis enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He then went on to begin his career at Republic Steel. Orvis' passion was as master craftsman and woodworker. Orvis designed, built, wired, plumbed and finished his family's home. Each of his family members has cherished hand crafted items in their home from Orvis. Orvis was an avid golfer and bowler, working to improve his game until he left this world. Orvis was a member of Grace United Church of Christ over 50 years. Along with his parents, Orvis was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Orvis is survived by his wife, Charlotte J. (Moore) Evans, the love of his life, whom he married on September 10, 1950, his three sons, Jeffrey O. (Oleta) Evans, Dean B. Evans and Mark D. (Linda K.) Evans, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE on Sunday, October 16th from 2 to 4 pm and Monday, October 17th from 11 to 1 with a service at 1 pm, followed by a meal at Grace United Church of Christ, 933 Main Avenue W. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Church of Christ.
