Onita Maxine Schafrath

Onita Maxine Schafrath, 97 of Perry Township, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017. Onita was born on August 18, 1920 in Navarre, the daughter of the late Ira and Elma (Burkhalter) Holl. She was a lifelong resident of the area. Onita was a graduate of Navarre High School and Massillon Business School. She was a homemaker. Onita enjoyed traveling, collecting glassware, antiques, gardening and playing cards. She was a 50 plus year member of Perry Grange. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Austin J. Schafrath in 2002; sisters, Sylvia Brady, Twila Bigler and Miriam McGlynn and her brother, Marvin Holl. She is survived by her children Alice (Steve Heim) Stroup, Kenneth (Pat) Schafrath, Wayne (Pat) Schafrath, and Dennis (Alice Benedict) Schafrath; grandchildren, Debora (Scott) Jarvis, Chris (Kristin) Randles, Kurt (Lisa Hunt) Schafrath, Jonathan Schafrath, Troy (Laurel) Schafrath, Devin (Kelli) Schafrath, and Brianna; and 9 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at the Massillon Laurels and Crossroads Hospice for their care and support. A Celebration of Onita’s Life will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Clement Cemetery in Navarre. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. before the service. There will be a Grange service on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Crossroads Hospice or Perry Grange.
