Nicholas D. Frailly, age 87, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2009 after an eight year battle with Alzheimer's. Recently he resided at Amherst Meadows Nursing Home in Massillon. Family and friends were by his side throughout his last day. Born on December 12, 1921 in Brewster, Ohio, Danny also known as Nuncy was the son of the late Maria Louisa Cipriani ( mother) and Donato Ferrelli ( father) who were immigrants from Italy to the United States in the early 1900's. In addition to his parents, Danny is preceded in death by three brothers, Gidio, Tony, Patsy, and two sisters, Nelly Lanzer and Jenny Lutz. Two siblings remain, Bobby Frailly of Statesville, North Carolina and Rose Singer of Massillon, Ohio. Danny grew up on the Frailly farm with his parents and loving brothers and sisters in Brewster, Ohio, attended elementary and high school in Brewster. He was active at a very young age in farming, sports and railroading while growing up. After high school graduation from Brewster High School in 1939, Danny served his country in WWII in the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard Division. He was a Machinist Mate from 1942 through his honorable discharge in 1945. A night out at the old Penn Club in Massillon, Ohio after returning home from the service was all it took to fall in love. Danny married his sweetheart, the former Helen J. Sylvester on April 30, 1949. They were fortunate to celebrate 60 years of marriage together earlier this year and were rarely apart. In addition to his wife Helen, survivors include his son and daughter in law, Ron and Cheryl, three grandsons, Ronnie, Tim and Chris, all whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brothers and sister in law. For more than 30 years, Danny worked at The Eaton Corporation before retiring in the mid 1980's. He started out as a wire ring machine operator and worked his way through the ranks, was self taught and received a Mechanical Engineering degree while attending night correspondence school at J.C.S. in Pennsylvania. Danny finished his career at Eaton Corp. as Chief Product Engineer and has three U.S. manufacturing patents for completed work. A loving husband and father, Nuncy enjoyed the simple things in life. He was active in various sports, played baseball and football as a youth, bowled and golfed occasionally. An avid fisherman, he loved the sport and even manufactured his own lures for many years. Danny cherished his few fishing trips to Canada and fished Lake Erie many, many times from the 1950's through 1990. A fish fry, a steak on the grill and Helen's daily home cooking was tops on his list! Music was medicine to his ear. He taught himself how to play the piano and really excelled on the accordion, playing waltzes and polka's every Sunday morning. Relaxation to him was working around his lawn making it a picture perfect landscape and planting his garden yearly in spring after growing his own plants from seeds every winter! Polka dances were tops on his calendar. Danny was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Massillon, past member of the Eagles #190, Eaton Men's Club, and the former Italian-American Club of Massillon. The family would to like to express their sincere thank you to Dr. Perlman, Bonnie, Aultman Hospital and the caring staff at Amherst Meadows. In addition, a special thank you to our family and friends for the love and support shown to “Danny” during his long journey. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road N.E. in Massillon on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 6 to 8 pm.
