Biography of Mrs. Nhi Bui Mrs. Nhi Bui was born in the Phục Đán, Đà Nẵng village on January 01, 1928. She was the ninth child from a large family of 11. She grew up with her country in the midst of a chaotic war that tore many families apart, including her own. Mrs. Nhi Bui was separated from her parents and siblings at the age of 16. Although she was unable to attend any type of formal schooling, her life experiences created a woman far wiser than most. Like a lotus blooming from the mud, with each hardship she endured, she emerged stronger and wiser. In 1950, she married a civil servant, Mr. Tạ Đình Tất, and were blessed with 8 children. In 1975, the tragedy of war took away her youngest daughter. The majority of her children were born and raised in Phan Thiết. Although they were poor, she found a way to enrich her children’s lives through education and by passing along the wisdom that she gained throughout her own lifetime. What they lacked in material wealth, Mrs. Nhi Bui made up for in tough love and a determination to create a better life for her children. In 1972, the family moved to Long Khánh, where she was able to build a successful business that gave her a chance at freedom for her family. With only the dream of a better life for her kids as motivation, she worked tirelessly to pull her family out of poverty. Eventually, through determination and hard work, she earned enough money to plan her family’s escape from Vietnam. In 1985, she and her children began their voyage across the ocean. The journey was filled with fear as they woke up each morning uncertain about whether they would survive the day. Throughout the journey, she prayed, fasted and recited the name of Buddha for peace. She prayed to Buddha for safe travel and for a better life. But most of all, she prayed to Buddha for her children. Finally, her family reached the Land of Freedom. Her family has flourished in America and she is the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Throughout her beautiful and amazing life, Mrs. Nhi Bui always kept her vows and her faith until the moment her soul passed on to the Dharma. Our beloved mother, 92, was called home to the Western Pure Land on Oct 28th, 2020 at her home surrounded by the love of her family. She was an amazing, caring and beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
