Mona A. Hart

February 22, 1924 — July 28, 2009

Mona A. (Stout) Hart, 85, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2008, after an extended illness. Born in Wooster to the late Paul and Gladys (Potts) Stout, she lived most of her life in Massillon, and was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School. She served in the United States Navy WAVES during World War II, stationed in San Francisco. Mrs. Hart worked as a school secretary at Watson Elementary School while attending Kent State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1969. She then began a 30 year career as an elementary school teacher in the Massillon City School System, teaching at Franklin, Harvey, and L.J. Smith Elementary Schools before retiring in 1999. After retirement, Mrs. Hart continued to substitute teach throughout Stark County for five additional years. Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James C., in June of 2008. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Helen) of Centerville; three grandsons: Bruce of Cincinnati, Christopher and Michael, of Centerville; her brother, Mr. S. Richard (Audrey) Stout of Shaker Heights; sisters-in-law Mrs. Margaret Shriber of Maui, Hawaii, and Mrs. Geraldine Reese of Twinsburg, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends. Mona was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be deeply missed. In honoring Mona's wishes, the family will observe a private memorial, and there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her behalf to the Massillon Public Library in honor of Mona's love of learning.
