Molly Hurd Washington, age 100, of Massillon, entered eternal peace at The Laurels Healthcare Center in Massillon on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 following a brief illness. Molly was born on November 5, 1915 in Wetumpka, AL the daughter of the late Willie and Picola Cain Hurd. She met and married the late Albert Washington on February 2, 1937. To this union was born two sons, Lawrence W. "Larry" Washington and the late Robert L. "Pete" Washington. The Washington family relocated to Massillon in 1944 and united with the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as an active member. She was well known throughout the Massillon community as a seamstress. In the early days she was employed as an elevator operator at the McClymonds Office Building and the First National Bank Building. Along with her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by son, Robert L. Washington; sisters, Lula M. Bell, Alma Loutelia Brown, and Willie Laura George; brothers, Alex and Thomas Hurd. She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her son, Lawrence W. (Pamela) Washington, of Austin, TX; special niece and care giver, Marva L. Dodson of Massillon; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A Home Going Celebration will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 3 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Zion Church in Massillon.
