Miriam L. Carter

July 21, 1925 — September 18, 2022

Miriam L. (Miller) Carter, age, 97, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022. She was born on July 21, 1925 in Louisville, Ohio to the late Earl and Pearl (Oyster) Miller.

Miriam was a 1943 graduate of Louisville High School and then received her B.S. Degree from Otterbein College in 1947.

She taught at Whittier Elementary School in Massillon for 29 years.

She was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon on the Food, Clothing and Prayer Ministry and helped with funeral dinners. After retirement, she continued to enjoy doing volunteer work. Miriam also served on the Massillon Salvation Army board for many years and volunteered at Massillon Affinity hospital.

Miriam was a 50 year member of the Massillon Woman’s Club.

In addition to her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by her husband Richard Carter of 56 years in 2003, sisters Marie Minton, Arline Wolfarth and brother Glenn Miller.

She is survived by her sons Terry Carter, Tim (Theresa) Carter and daughter, Nancy Carter; grandchildren Wendy (Brian), Paul, Justin, Daniel (Jessica), Ashley (Greg); step-grandchildren Jeremy (Jackie), Larry (Heather) and George; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Presbyterian Church-Food, Clothing and Prayer Ministry, 530 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, Ohio 44702, Massillon Salvation Army, 315 6th St. N.E., Massillon, Ohio 44646, or Crossroads Hospice, 2229 Raber Road, Uniontown, OH 44685.

The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 10-11 a.m. Funeral service immediately at 11 a.m. Private burial will take place at Union Cemetery in Louisville. Messages of comfort and support may be sent to the family at www.paquelet.com.
