Michael" Mike" P. Sowards, 55, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Aultman Compassionate Care Center following an extended illness. Mike was born in Massillon on October 11, 1957 to the late Paul J. Sowards, and Alice I. (Stewart) Sowards of Massillon. He was a 1977 graduate of Washington High School and worked for the Heinz until his retirement. Mike enjoyed volunteering at Paul Brown Stadium as an Usher in the Student Section for many years; it allowed him to connect to the memories of his youth. He was an avid golfer, bowler, camper, fisherman, OSU Fan, Indians and Browns Fan. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles and First Baptist Church. He is also survived by his three sisters, Karen L. (Ross) Hoopes of Rochester, MN, Carolyn D. (Alan) Haley of Navarre, Amy R. (Leroy) Kuhns of Dalton, a brother, Eddie R. (Erin) Sowards of Port Lavaca, TX, thirteen nieces and nephews, eight great-nephews and great-nieces, two uncles and an aunt. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 5:00PM-8:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:00AM in the Paquelet Funeral Home, Pastor Matt Hamsher, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aultman Compassionate Care Center.
