Michael Galant

Michael Galant, age 74, of Massillon, passed away Feb. 20, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born May 22, 1936 in Altoona, PA, the son of Michael and Cecilia (Kaczor) Galant, who preceded him in death. On May 14, 1960, he was married to Matilda Findish, and they shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Mr. Galant was retired from Republic Storage where he was a Press Operator, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon, where he served in the choir for 30 years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Loyalty Council 554. He loved his Polish heritage and Polka music, enjoyed playing the trumpet, working in his garden and planting flowers around his house. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Massillon Tigers. He loved his family. Michael is survived, in addition to his wife, a brother, Stanley (Susan) Galant; sister-in-law, Carol Galant; daughters, Debra (Rick) Cooperider of Canal Fulton, Lisa (Craig) Grumbach of Medina, sons: Craig (Chris) Galant of Virginia Beach, Brian (Joan) Galant of Massillon, and Michael (Justine) Galant of Reynoldsburg. He had 12 grandchildren, Nicole and Jessica Cooperider; Erika, Cory and Rachel Grumbach; Erin, Riley, and Jacob Galant; Alyssa and Alina Galant; Justin and Marissa Galant; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his brother Joseph Galant. The family will receive friends on Wed Feb. 23, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9pm, at Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Ave NE. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, February 24, 2011, 10 AM, at St. Mary’s Church with entombment in the mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
