Merle DeVere (Dee) Evans, Jr. of Canton, Ohio Age 85, died peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2016. He was born in Massillon, Ohio in 1930 to Florrie and Merle DeVere Evans, Sr. and attended Washington High School and subsequently graduated from Duke University. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army (Artillery) in Korea and returned to graduate from Duke Law School. He was recruited to join the Justice Department in the Anti-Trust Division. During this period he married Hattie Evans of Birmingham, Alabama, his wife for 63 years, and their two children were born. Later he returned to the Massillon/Canton area for business reasons and retired to Florida and the beautiful mountains of North Carolina where the couple lived happily until returning to Canton. Merle leaves a very loving family of wife Hattie, daughter Holly (and Mark) Robertson from Columbus; son, Trace (and Mary-Margaret) Evans of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Barrett (and Tommie) Ault of Columbus, Kate Evans, Suzanne (and Jeff) Parker, and Willison Evans, all of Boston Massachusetts; plus great-grandchildren, Bryson and Hattie Ault. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Evans Baucom. We would all like to thank The Inn at Belden Village and the Aultman Compassionate Care Center for the wonderful kindness and comfort they gave to Merle and the family during this time. Our thanks also to friends and neighbors for their personal visits, cards, flowers, food and prayers. They warmed our hearts. Merle's wishes were to be cremated. There will be no calling hours.
