Melvin 'Mel' Maxheimer

May 8, 1940 — May 12, 2014

Melvin 'Mel' Maxheimer May 8, 1940 – May 12, 2014 As was Mel's prayer, God gently took him home after a fight with dementia. Mel graduated from Massillon High School and the College of Hard Knocks, and lived most of his life in the Massillon area. Together Mel and his father owned and operated a paper products manufacturing company in Massillon for many years before retiring. Mel enjoyed tinkering at his workbench, working on cars, electronics, gardening, cooking, reading, music, and much more. There was never an animal he did not love….even spiders. Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Irene (Sabaka) Maxheimer, several uncles, and brother-in-law, Donald Dobransky. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy; mother-in-law, Helen Dobransky; sister-in-law, Lyn (Moore) Dobransky; a great friend, Ken Bittinger; brother of the heart-Don Gates,….one aunt, Grace Banfield, and many cousins. Many thanks to: Dr. Wayne Lutzke of Family Practice Associates for a lifetime of understanding and guidance, and Dr. David C. Stachel, of Green Meadows, for his caring and dedication. A special thanks to Dick and Sue Williams, always there with hands and heart; Floyd and Linda Lewis, always there with encouragement and support; Don and Shirley Gates, always there; Shelby, Abigail, Evan Collier; Don Johnson; and many others for their love, prayers and help. A special thank you to all of the Green Meadows Health Care Center for treating Mel like one of their own with care and love, and to Crossroads Hospice for giving peace, love, and comfort. As Mel wished, cremation has taken place and private services will be held at a later date, with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon. Friends may gather at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home: 1100 Wales Rd. NE, Massillon, OH 44646 on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. to offer condolences and good stories. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, OH 44685, or the Stark County Humane Society, 5100 Peach Street NE, Louisville, OH 44641, or the charity of your choice. Messages of comfort and support may be sent to the family at www.arnoldlynch.com. I bet Mel and my brother Don are busy sharing stories as they rearrange God's Harbor Freight.
