Melvin M. Hartman

Melvin M. Hartman, age 80 of Massillon, died on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Meadow Wind Health Care Center. He was born on July 28, 1931 in Beech Grove, Ohio and was the son of the late Peter and Vera (Evans) Hartman. He was a 1949 graduate of Washington High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Mel worked for various construction companies, retiring from Schumacher Construction in 1983. He was a member of Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church and the AMVETS Post 12. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Matthew Hartman and his sisters, Kathleen Shaffer and Gracie Baker. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Plummer) Hartman whom he married on October 20, 1956, his children, Robert Kulick, Linda (Kulick) Span and her husband Terry Span, Thomas Hartman and his wife Judy (Lowdermilk) Hartman, 5 grandsons and 18 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Ruth Davis and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, January 17th at 11:00 A.M. at the Chapel of the Cross United Methodist Church (14411 Orrville St. NW, North Lawrence, Ohio 44666) with Rev. Ignatius David officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will follow at the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11:00 A, M. on Tuesday. The family wishes to thank the staff at Meadow Wind and Asera Care for the wonderful care and attention that they gave to Mel.
