Melvin D. Dennis, age 83 of Massillon, died Monday morning at Doctor’s Hospital. He was born on February 27, 1923 in Cadiz, Ohio and was the son of the late Burl and Frances (Thompson) Dennis. He was a Massillon resident for most of his life. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the American Theater in the Asiatic Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the V.F.W., the Army/Navy Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles where he was a 5 time past president. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Burl, Harold, Jess, Lawrence and John Dennis and his sister Irene Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife, Betty C. Dennis, whom he married on May 20, 1949, his daughters and sons in law, Wendy and Michael Palmer of Navarre, Ohio, DeeDee and Tom Marcovechio of Massillon and Judy and Bill DeHoff of Massillon, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and his brother and sister in law Henry and Reba Dennis of Canton, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Mishler officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday one hour before the service.
