Matilda "Tilly" Margaret Balaz Hahn, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister and lifelong Massillonian passed away Friday, May 18, 2012. Tilly was born on January 11, 1935 to parents who immigrated from Czechoslovakia, arriving through Ellis Island in the early 1920s. She was the youngest of six siblings, and is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Leo Hahn, who passed away in 2008. Tilly's profession as a salesperson flourished throughout her life. In the 1970's, Tilly was one of the first associates in Ohio to join a decorative glassware company, Tiara Exclusives, which sold glassware through home parties called "gift-aramas". Quickly, she worked her way up the ranks, eventually overseeing an entire region that encompassed many sales associates who she recruited in northeastern Ohio. Tilly received many accolades in Tiara, ranging from numerous trips and sales awards to ultimately being recognized for her achievements in a book entitled "The Eagle's Quest" by the company's founder. In the 1980's, Tilly embarked on a career in real estate, selling first with Therese Matie and ultimately with Cutler Real Estate. Tilly's name was well-recognized on many 'for sale' signs in the front yards of homes throughout Stark County. She truly enjoyed her work of helping people find the perfect place to call home. A lifelong Massillon resident, Tilly was an avid sports enthusiast and held season tickets for over 20 years, on the coveted 50 yard line. She loved the Massillon Tiger team and was known to most as a true "Tiger Lady", proudly wearing her orange and black and supporting her team. Especially in her later years, her pastime of playing bingo was also a fun part of her life, and her positive presence will be missed by many in the local bingo halls. Above all, Tilly lived for her children and grandchildren and felt her best when surrounded by the family she had lovingly created. She was a truly compassionate spirit who emanated understanding and harmony, and will be missed every second of every day by her children. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Hahn of San Francisco, CA; her son, Vincent Hahn and his wife Michele of Magnolia, Ohio, her son, Eric Hahn of Los Angeles, sisters Mary Jane Snyder and Milly Piacente of Massillon, and grandchildren Raechel Hahn of Wilmington, NC, and Nick Hahn of Magnolia, Ohio. Also surviving are her nieces and nephew. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home with Rev. John Telloni officiating. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 PM. at the funeral home. Messages of support and sympathy can be sent to the family at www.paquelet.com.
