Mary Matilda Tippie of Massillon, passed away at the age of 90 of natural causes on December 28, 2008, while visiting her family in California. Mrs. Tippie was born and spent her entire life in Massillon. She is the daughter of the late Stephan and Matilda Madori Soos, both of whom were immigrants from Hungary. Mary is one of eight children, seven of whom were girls. Immediately prior to her death, Mary lived with the now lone surviving and youngest sibling of the Soos family, Margaret Blaugh. Six other siblings preceded her in death, those being Teresa Domonkos, Matilda Kucinic, Ann Fodorsi, Elizabeth Salvatore, Joseph Soos and Rose Kolek. Mary married William Henry Tippie who passed away 39 years ago at the age of 51. Like many young women in the 1940’s, Mary pitched in to support her government by taking positions in historically male dominated industries. Mary gave birth to three children, Karen, Alan and Kenneth. Mary is survived by her daughter, Karen & Gregory Mathes of Massillon; sons, Alan & Nelli Tippie and Kenneth Tippie both of California; five grandchildren, Juli, Sara and Sean Mathes and Alexander and Maximilian Tippie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Massillon with Fr. Raymond Paul officiating. Friends may call Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
