Mary Kathryn Merry

Mary Kathryn Merry, 89, of Navarre, passed away on March 6, 2023. She was born in Carlisle, Ohio on September 16, 1933 to the late Rayner and Bernetta (Ruppel) Schehl.

She married the love of her life, Dale Merry, on September 16, 1950, which also happened to be her seventeenth birthday. Mary was a lifelong member of Holy Family Parish where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. Mary’s greatest passion in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was a marvelous cook, baker, and homemaker who hosted the most wonderful family events. There was nothing like going over to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for a delicious meal, Grandpa’s homemade wine, and a competitive game of Rook or Skip-Bo. Everyone wanted to be Grandma’s partner! Mary also enjoyed working in their beautiful yard, cultivating her many flower beds, and helping Grandpa with the garden or latest woodworking project. She liked to read, bowl, and play badminton, volleyball, and croquet.

Mary will be deeply missed by her daughter, Gail (John Glenn) Merry, son, Tom (Lisa) Merry, and daughter-in-law, Vicki Owen Merry; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Crock and Donna Bridgeman and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; son, Steve; grandson, Luke and brothers, Victor, John, and Richard Schehl.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00am at Holy Family Parish in Navarre. Burial will follow at St. Clement's Cemetery.
