Mary Joan Miller

Mary Joan Miller, age 85 of Massillon, passed away early on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon. She was born in Navarre, Ohio on September 29, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Carl Leonard and Dorothea (Riordan) Betteker. She was a Massillon resident since 1947. She was an educator, retiring from the Akron City School system in 1988. She taught in both Stark and Summit counties. She earned her Masters in Education from Kent State University. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon, the Lady Elks in North Canton, and the German-American Club in Cape Coral, FL. In 1998, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Patton Miller, with whom she had shared 52 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death was her brother James Betteker. She is survived by her brother Robert Louis Betteker, Sr. of North Palm Beach, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 15th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Edward Gretchko officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clement’s Cemetery in Navarre. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:00 – 9:45 A.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
