Mary Jane Snyder

May 17, 1926 — January 9, 2016

Mary Jane Snyder of Massillon passed away peacefully January 9, 2016, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wayne Snyder. Her parents, the late Susana and George Ballash of Massillon, were immigrants from Czechoslovakia who came to the U.S. in the early 1920's. Mary was a caring and generous spirit who consistently helped others and whose elegant presence was felt through the joy and beauty she radiated. In the 1980's Mary Jane worked as a successful saleswoman for Tiara Exclusives, a decorative glassware company. In her younger years, as an excellent seamstress she worked for a local company creating stylish, formal dresses. She was an avid collector of vintage and fine jewelry. Always active and engaged, she enjoyed golfing, line and polka dancing. She attended Washington High School and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Mary Jane and her late husband Wayne were godparents to 20 children. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Tilly Hahn, John Balas, Ann Mathias and Sue Large. She is survived by her sister Millie Piacente of Massillon and lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
