Mary Helen Shanklin

August 16, 1948 — April 26, 2017

Mary Helen (Schoener) Shanklin of North Lawrence passed away April 26, 2017 at Akron General Hospital following a 3 month battle with cancer; her son, John, and her life partner and companion, Danny Wiseman, were at her bedside. She was born on August 16, 1948 in Massillon City Hospital, and was the daughter of the late John and Isabell (Young) Schoener. She resided in the North Lawrence area most of her life. Mary graduated from Tuslaw High School in 1966 and served in the US Navy from April 1967 until her honorable discharge in 1970. Mary attended Saint Michael's Lutheran Church in Marshallville. She was an avid reader and an animal lover. She retired from Rosemount Analytical, Inc. (formerly Westinghouse). She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Nancy Lee and Donna Jean Schoener, and her brother Thomas J Schoener. Her former husband, Kenneth Shanklin, also preceded her in death. Mary is survived by her son, John Shanklin and granddaughter, Maria Shanklin of Marshallville; sisters, Doris (Woodrow) Hart (of Massillon, June Merreot (and Cordell Garrett), Betty Wright, and Linda (Richard) Weller all of North Lawrence, and brother, Roy ”Bud" (Sandi) Schoener of Navarre. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and her "always by her side" friend and companion, Danny Wiseman. Per her wishes she will be cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral services. Her final resting place will be the Ohio Western Reserve Veterans Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. A special thank you to Danny for taking such good care of our sister, Mary, throughout her illness. Paquelet Funeral Home & Crematory (330) 833-3222
