Mary Frances Strukel

Mary F. Strukel age 81 of Massillon, passed away on Friday, December, 8, 2017. She was born in Massillon, Ohio on October 23, 1936 to the late Francis and Mary (Bell) Nemeth. She graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1954. Mary worked at Republic Steel, the Massillon City Schools, the Timken Company, the College of Wooster and the University of Akron. After retiring, Mary ran for the school board. She was on the board for six years before having to retire in the summer of 2017 due to a stroke. Mary was proudest of her work on the school board. She attended as many events as possible as she loved all of Massillon’s children. Mary was seen at every school and at concerts and other school events. She also was a diehard Tigers fan and attended football, boys and girls basketball, baseball games and other athletic events. Mary led the effort to get Obie on the license plates and enjoyed a sense of pride every time she saw an Obie plate on a car around town. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Strukel, D.D.S. She is survived by her sister Betty Nemeth (Massillon), and brother Mike Nemeth (Starkville, MS). A loving and caring mother, Mary is also survived by her son Daniel Strukel and daughter-in-law Christine Strukel, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, and son David Strukel of Massillon. Mary is also survived by her loving grand-dog, a Scottish Terrier named Bonnie. Special thanks to Michelle Lorenzo and Evelyn Feather who were caregivers to Mary and treated her with love. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace-Christ the Servant Parish in Canton on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home at on Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Belden / Canton.
