Mary Sophia Fierstos, age 86 of Canton, passed away Monday evening, August 6, 2007 at The Landings of Canton. She was born on July 4, 1921 on the family farm at Southway and Hazelbrook in Perry Township and was the daughter of the late Charles & Gertrude Koehn) Fierstos. She was also preceded in death by her brother Elmer Fierstos. Mary graduated from Massillon Washington High School and Massillon Business College. She kept the family farm in operation along with her brother Elmer. Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies along with baking cakes and cookies to share with her family and friends. Mary worked the election polls for many years at Genoa Elementary School. She is survived by her first cousin, Harold Weaver of Canton, and Alice Halter Clark of Arizona. Her second cousins include Howard (Faye) Fierstos, Jr. of Navarre, Susan Fierstos of Pittsburgh, PA, Rose Fierstos (Gary) Graybill of Canton and Louise Fierstos (Edward) Mahoney III of Clinton, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. William Kraynack officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. on Thursday at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road NE in Massillon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s name to the Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way East, Massillon, OH 44646 or Perry-Sippo Branch of Stark County District Library, 5710-12th NW, Canton, OH 44708 or to your favorite charity.
