Mary E. Driver age 80 of Massillon passed away at her residence after a short illness. She was born December 23, 1927 in Alabama to the late Rufus & Nancy Lewis and moved to Massillon as a young child. Mary had been employed at the former Sanitary Laundry and retired from Hanover House as a housekeeping supervisor. She was a long time member of St. James AME Zion Church where she was Deaconess, a member of the Parent Body Missionary Society, Keep Moving Club and Stewardess Board. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln Driver (1974), a sister Rose and a brother, Sam Smith. She will be missed by her daughter Mary K Driver (Jason Smith) of Massillon; two goddaughters, Erin & Monique Marshall; a special nephew, Philip Williams; adoptive daughters Shelia Lloyd, Arlene Williams and Quenessa Hampton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including Fred and Cheryl Richards. A Home Going Celebration of Mary Driver’s life will be 11 AM Monday at St. James AME Zion Church in Massillon. Her pastor Rev. Robert W. Lewis Sr. will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
