Martha Singleton

Martha J. Singleton, 76 of Massillon departed from this life and entered everlasting life on July 21, 2009. She was born on May 20, 1933 in Malvern, Ohio the daughter of the late Mary Ellen (Dowdy) Massey and Christian Jordan, Step-father, William Massey. She lived most of her life in Massillon where she was a cherished member of the Word of Liberty Church. Martha was an avid bowler until her illness prevented her from continuing. She bowled with the traveling league and various other leagues. After her retirement from the Hoover Co. she went to work for Midwest Health Services Inc. where she pursued her true love and passion of helping others. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria Ashcraft, her grandsons, Leon “Bone” Ashcraft and Crispin Cleveland, her brothers, James “Dick”, Daniel, and Nelson Massey and her sisters, Jean Jenkins, Emma Massey and Willie Barksdale. She is survived by her husband, Pat Singleton; her children and their spouses, Ellen Camper, Steven (Lisa) Ashcraft, Rochelle (Jerry) Herring and Thomasina (Tommy) Longshore; her step-children, Georgia Mae Singleton, Patsy (Willie) Anthony and Jimmie Lee, Manuel Lee, Sam (Linda), Joe (Veronica) and Jeffrey (Jackie) Singleton; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren;her siblings, Minnie Woods, Donna Massey, William (Nadine) Massey, Pearla (Mack) McClendon; her sister-in-law Joyce Massey, and her special friend Sister Delores Hollaway. A Going Home Celebration will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at Word of Liberty Church. Friends may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Sunday from 5-7 PM and one hour prior to service at the church. Her pastor, Bernard Lawson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Messages of sympathy and support may be sent to www.paquelet.com.
