Martha P. (Mungo) Galvin Fritz, age 86 of Akron, formerly of Massillon, died on Monday, February 16, 2009 at Akron General Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Navarre, Ohio on September 10, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Florence E. (Truax) Mungo (later Sistock). On February 2, 1956 she married Eugene “Jim” Fritz and shortly after, they moved to Portage Lakes. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Jim” Fritz in 2007, her brother, Harry Mungo, Jr. and her grandson Beau Way. Martha is survived by her daughter, Judy Cain of Akron, Ohio, grandchildren Kim (Bob) Haas, Scott (Claire) Hilbert, Chris Cain and John (Kelly) Cain, her sister in law, Opal Mungo and the entire Fritz family, many great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Also surviving are nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends and neighbors. Martha water skied in shows at Meyers Lake in Canton, Ohio, she also traveled to other lakes throughout Ohio and Pennsylvania to demonstrate her water skiing talents. She won many tournaments and had titles at the state, regional and national level. Martha is recognized in the Water Ski Hall of Fame in Florida. When Martha wasn’t on the water in the summer or on the snow slopes in the winter, you could find her at her dance studio in Massillon where she taught ballroom dancing. This consumed 32 wonderful years of Martha’s life. After retiring from her studio, she began teaching dance classes with her daughter Judy in Akron. As late as 2 weeks ago Martha demonstrated some jitterbug moves for a ballroom class. Martha was a born performer and she especially loved doing shows throughout northeast Ohio with the Top Kats. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses & staff at Akron General Hospital for making Martha comfortable in her final hours. A service to celebrate Martha’s life will take place on Saturday, February 21st at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home at 2:30 P.M. with Rev. Edd Matako officiating. Cremation will follow at a later date. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 P.M. and on Saturday one hour before the service. Memorial donations may be made to charity of your choice.
