Martha “Marty” A. Nelson, 91, of Navarre, went home to be with the Lord on June 6, 2023. She was born on July 25, 1931 in Dover, OH to the late William and Bertha Markham. She was a 1949 graduate of Canal Fulton High School and later graduated Cum Laude from Malone College in 1999 at the age of 67, with a Bachelor’s Degree in English.
Martha retired from Malone College in 1993, where she worked in the financial aid office since 1981. She then worked at ETI Technical College and Epworth U.M. Church. She became a member of Amherst Community Church on February 11, 1968. Martha was a member of the Crazy Ladies card club for many years. She was a voracious reader enjoying a variety of topics, and read the Bible every year. She was a people person and enjoyed the company of family and friends. She will forever be remembered as a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Martha is survived by her children, Jane (Jerry) Breiding and Andy (Kathy) Nelson; grandchildren, Adam (Shelly) Miller, Autumn (Chris) Sell, Andrew Nelson, A.J. McAbier and Katelyn (Nick) Freday; great-grandchildren Aidan, Alyvia, Hudson and Sylas; devoted friend Linda Simons and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth, Edwin and James and sister, Ruth.
Mom thanks God for the wonderful life he gave her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Amherst Community Church on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Calvin Hamblin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Martha’s name may be directed to Amherst Community Church, 8650 Beatty St NW, Massillon, OH 44646.
